366 Active Croatia — FAQ Page
Cycling FAQ
The Dalmatian coast between Split and Dubrovnik is widely considered Croatia's best cycling region, combining smooth coastal roads, historic towns like Split and Dubrovnik, and island-hopping to Brač, Hvar, Korčula, and the Pelješac Peninsula by ferry. Istria, in Croatia's north, is a second major cycling region, known for gentler hills, vineyards, and the Parenzana trail. The area from Istria to Split, North Dalmatia is another beautiful cycling paradise. All these regions have really developed tourist infrastructure, meaning you will find different types/levels of hotels and restaurants. For those who are more adventurous and don’t care so much about level of accommodation; inland of Dalmatia (Area of Vrgorac, Sinj, Trilj), Velebit mountain range with Lika and Gorski Kotar are less tourism orientated/dependant meaning you will really find authentic life and beautiful nature.
You don't need to be an athlete. Our self-guided tours are designed for reasonably active adults with some cycle/hike experience and no cycle – touring experience needed — expect around 3–5 hours of riding per day at a comfortable pace, on paved roads, with regular stops for swimming, food, and sightseeing. If you're comfortable riding a bike for an hour or two at home, you can handle our standard routes. E-bikes are available for anyone who wants extra support on hillier sections. Hiking trails are mostly on rocky limestone gravel trails, where reasonable level of fitness is needed. If you can handle walk of 2 to 3h with easy pace at home, you should be fine on our tours. There is always option to skip a day, if you need some rest.
It depends on the region. The main Split-to-Dubrovnik coastal route and the islands (Brač, Hvar, Korčula) are mostly rolling terrain — a mix of flat coastal stretches and moderate climbs, not extreme mountain gradients. Istria in the north is generally gentler and more suited to relaxed riders.
Yes. E-bikes are available on 366 Active Croatia tours and are a popular option for guests who want to enjoy the scenery and climbs without the physical strain of a standard bike.
Traffic itself is generally not the main risk — Croatia is a safe country for cycling — but certain roads do get busy in peak season (mid-July to mid-August), particularly the mainland coastal road between Split and Dubrovnik. 366 Active Croatia routes prioritize island roads and back roads over busy mainland roads wherever possible, since island roads are generally quiet outside of ferry arrival/departure times. Basic precautions — riding single file, wearing bright clothing, and following standard road rules — make a big difference, and our route notes flag any busier sections in advance.
High season (best time for cycling and hiking) for active travellers is late spring (end of April to end of June) and early autumn (September to November). Temperatures are comfortable (roughly low-to-high 20s°C), roads are quieter, and accommodation is easier to find without the peak-season crowds. Mid-July to mid-August is Croatia's busiest and hottest period (regularly above 30°C), with more traffic and higher accommodation prices — still possible to cycle, but less relaxed than shoulder season.
Do I need previous cycling experience for a self-guided tour in Croatia?
No previous touring experience is needed for 366 Active Croatia's self-guided tours. Routes are mapped with GPS navigation, rated by difficulty, and can be adjusted to a slower pace or shortened. Most guests are everyday recreational cyclists, not competitive riders.
Besides your regular outfit and toiletries, for cycling you will need at least 2 pairs of padded cycling shorts, a light rain jacket (short showers are possible in shoulder season), sunscreen and a hat, comfortable walking shoes for evenings in town. If you use clipless pedals bring them as well, we will help you mount them. Otherwise, use regular sporty shoes with flat pedal option. helmet is either provided by us (even we suggest bringing your own).

366 Active Croatia FAQ
366 Active Croatia was created during the Covid-19 pandemic, when international travel restrictions meant most visitors to Croatia were local, regional, and neighbouring-country travellers arriving by car rather than long-haul international guests. Our premium sister company, Meridien Ten, was built for international, fly-in guests booking fully bespoke tours who will most probably visit Croatia only once (and want the best possible experience) — a different trip style and price point than what nearby travellers needed at the time.
366 Active Croatia was launched to serve that gap: simpler, less logistically demanding tours using BnB and standard hotel accommodation instead of curated boutique stays, at a lower price point that could realistically attract higher volumes of local and regional cyclists and activity seekers — from Croatia itself and neighbouring countries such as Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Hungary, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has since grown into a standalone budget-friendly option for any traveller, local or international, who wants the same local route expertise without the premium price tag.
366 Active Croatia is the adventure-travel arm of Meridien Ten, a fourth-generation, family-run travel business based in Split, Croatia. Both companies share the same office and knowledge (over 20 years of route-planning experience on the Dalmatian coast and islands).
Meridien Ten built its reputation on fully personalized, premium self-guided and guided tours. 366 Active Croatia takes that same local expertise, the same tested routes, and the same trusted accommodation and ferry partners — and packages them into a leaner, more efficient format. You're not getting a "budget" version of a good tour. You're getting the same Split-based team's know-how, with fewer extras and simpler accommodation choices, so we can pass the savings on to you.
Mostly yes. As 366AC is “sister company” of Meridien Ten, we share same office, same phone number and local staff who've been planning Dalmatian coast cycling trips for years. If you've read Meridien Ten's reviews on Google, TripAdvisor, or TourRadar, you're reading about the same people and the same route expertise behind your 366 Active Croatia tour.
Many operators reselling Croatia cycling tours are not based in Croatia — they buy local services through a Croatian ground operator (often us or a company like us) and add their own margin on top. Because 366 Active Croatia is the local operator — not a foreign agency reselling someone else's itinerary — there's no middleman markup. You're booking directly with the people who discover and run the tours.
366 Active Croatia is a Croatian, family-owned and locally operated tour company based in Split — not an international agency reselling Croatian tours. We're part of the Meridien Ten family business, which has been planning cycling holidays on the Dalmatian coast for over two decades. Booking with a local operator means direct support from people who live on and ride these routes, rather than a foreign call centre.
Yes — this company operated under the name 365 Active Croatia until 2026. We changed our name to 366 Active Croatia following a naming dispute raised by a separate, unrelated Croatian company that also uses "365" in its name and offers half-day and full-day river activities such as rafting and kayaking on the Cetina River. Our own tours are entirely different: multi-day self-guided and small-group cycling and active holidays along the Dalmatian coast and islands, run by the same team as our sister company Meridien Ten. While the matter is being resolved, we updated our name to 366 Active Croatia to avoid any confusion between the two businesses. If you've come across us under our previous name, you're in the right place — same company, same team, same tours.
